Waste Tonnages and Recyclables

Question: Councillor B. Ward

“To ask the Manager to comment on the effect of the economic downturn on total waste tonnages and recyclables collected by the Council in the first 6 months of 2009 as compared to the first 6 months of 2008?”

Reply:

“The difference in waste tonnages collected by the Council was 4,838 tonnes less in January- June 2009 when compared to the same period in 2008.

The difference in recyclable tonnages collected by the Council was 1,531 tonnes less in January- June 2009 when compared to the same period in 2008.

The decreases in the amounts of waste collected are considered to be a result of the Council’s Customers transferring to Private Contractors.”
