Number of Households Serviced Directly

 

Question: Councillor B. Ward

“To ask the Manager the number of households serviced directly by the local authority or its agents for waste management collections and the number of individual people that this represented for the collection of household waste in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown and the total tonnage of waste collected from households in 2008?”

 

Reply:

“Currently, the Council provides a service to 25,400 households.  However, at any one time a number of households will have their service suspended due to non- payment of their charges.  The number of individual people that this represents is not available to the Council.

 

Household waste is not collected separately from commercial waste. Total tonnage of Household & Commercial collected in 2008 was 14,508 Tonnes.”

Municipal waste collected in 2008

 

Question: Councillor B. Ward

“To ask the Manager the total municipal waste collected in the local authority area in 2008 broken down into its component parts: household waste, commercial waste and street cleansing waste (including non-process industrial waste e.g. waste from industrial premises that is similar in nature to commercial waste)?”

 

Reply:

1.      Total household and commercial mixed residual [black bin] 33,477 tonnes

2.      Total household and commercial dry recyclables [green bin] 16,811 tonnes

3.      Total household and commercial ‘food & garden’ [brown bin] 149 tonnes

4.      Total litter/street sweepings 2,574 tonnes

5.      Commercial waste is not collected separately from household waste”

Breakdown of household waste collected

 

Question: Councillor B. Ward

“To ask the Manager the breakdown of household waste tonnage collected in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown by the Council or its agents into the categories as reported by the EPA i.e. black bin waste collected (mixed residual collection), green bin waste collected (separate kerbside collection of mixed dry recyclables), brown bin waste (separate kerbside collection of food and garden waste – if operated in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown), estimates of home composting, and household waste brought to civic amenity sites?”

 

 

Reply:

 

1.      Black bin waste collected (mixed residual collection) – 16,102 tonnes

2.      Green bin waste collected (separate kerbside collection of mixed dry recyclables) – 7,715 tonnes

3.      Brown bin waste – zero

4.      Estimates of home composting – 2,711 tonnes

5.      Household waste brought to civic amenity sites:

         Ballyogan Civic Amenity – 13,153 tonnes

         Bring Banks – 4,553 tonnes”

Street Cleaning Waste

 

Question:       Councillor B. Ward

“To ask the Manager to provide data for street cleaning waste arising for 2008 in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown, its makeup and destinations?”

 

Reply:

“The Cleansing section collected approximately 2,574 tonnes of waste in 2008. This was made up of street sweepings, contents of litter bins, illegally dumped waste and litter.

 

This waste was disposed of in either of the following ways:

 

Using the Cleansing Section’s fleet to dispose of the waste directly to Greenstar’s Recycling Facility in Fassaroe

 

Disposing of the waste into skips for collection by Access Waste Recycling.

Proportion of Commercial Waste Collected

 

Question: Councillor B. Ward

“To ask the Manager to provide 2008 data for the quantity of commercial (including non-process industrial) waste collected by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council or its agents and the proportion of this commercial waste in the total tonnage collected by the Council?”

 

Reply:

“Commercial waste is not collected separately from household waste. The total Household & Commercial collected was 16,102 Tonnes.”
