A Book of Condolence for former Taoiseach Dr Garret FitzGerald has been opened by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and will be available for members of the public to sign in County Hall, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin from 2.30pm today until 5pm, and all next week (Monday-Friday) from 9am to 5pm.

There will also be books of condolence in Fine Gael Head Office, 51 Mount Street, Dublin 2, (from 9.15am this morning), and at the Manion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2, where Dr FitzGerald will be lying in repose in the Oak Room from 11am to 7pm tomorrow, Saturday 21st May.

The former Taoiseach will be removed to the Sacred Heart Church, Donnybrook, Dublin 4 at 8pm tomorrow and a state funeral will be held on Sunday with mass beginning at 2.30pm, before burial in Shanganagh Cemetry at approximately 4.30pm.

As a result, Shanganagh Cemetry will be closed to all public vehicular traffic on Sunday.

  1. Both RTÉ and TV3 will carry live coverage of Dr FitzGerald’s State funeral. From 2pm tomorrow, RTÉ 1 television’s Bryan Dobson will host a live broadcast of the funeral mass, which will take place at the Sacred Heart Church in Donnybrook, Dublin. TV3 will broadcast a programme hosted by Vincent Browne.

    At about 3.45pm, the funeral cortege will proceed to Shanganagh Cemetery in Shankill, Co Dublin, where Dr FitzGerald will be laid to rest alongside his late wife, Joan. RTÉ Radio 1 will also carry a series of programmes dedicated to the memory of Dr FitzGerald. Beginning at 8.30am tomorrow, John Bowman will look back at the life of the former taoiseach. RTÉ Radio 1 will also broadcast live coverage of the funeral service from 2.15pm.
