Blackrock Library‘s Carnegie Cinema Club will screen the classic 1940 screwball comedy, His Girl Friday, as its second film, on Thursday the 9th of February at 6pm (doors at 5.45pm), followed by an audience discussion from 7.30 to 7.50pm. Tickets are €5 and can be purchased in advance from Blackrock Library, or on the door on a first-come, first-served basis.

Directed by Howard Hawks, His Girl Friday is a 1940 adaptation a 1928 Broadway hit, The Front Page, and stars Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell and Ralph Bellamy.

Walter Burns (played by Grant) is a hard-boiled editor for The Morning Post newspaper, who learns that his ex-wife, and former star reporter, Hildegard “Hildy” Johnson (played by Rosalind Russell), is about to marry a boring insurance broker and settle down to a quiet life as a wife and mother. Walter determines to sabotage these plans, enticing the reluctant Hildy to cover one last story, the upcoming execution of a convicted murderer.
