I raised the issue of two apparently pointless poles on Kill Lane, near Deansgrange, at the Dún Laoghaire Area Committee last week. These poles have been in situ for at least four years and never had a sign on them; I asked the Council to have them removed as they are unsightly and unnecessary.
Despite an undertaking in the official response to my question, that they would be removed within a few weeks, I now see that “cycle lane” signs have now been put on them!
I do not understand why, if those signs were not previously needed, why they are now being added. This is a waste of valuable Council resources and I am in favour of simply removing and reducing on-street poles and signage that are obstacles to people with visual impairments and mobility issues, and subtract from the visual amenity of our county.
