On Easter Monday (5th April 2010), there will be a free workshop in Cabinteely Park, on how to germinate giant sunflowers. Meet at the main entrance to the park, just off Park Drive at 10am and bring an empty small plant pot. Pot up your own plants and take them away to grow. You can also compete to be the best ‘Giant Sunflower’ grower for 2010.
This workshop is run by DLR’s OWLS programme (Outdoor, Wildlife, Learning, and Survival), an outdoor opportunity programme for young people and their parents to develop an appreciation and awareness of the natural environment. There is a series of events planned that will take place throughout the year in DLR parks and outdoor areas, ranging from pond dipping and wildlife safaris to kite flying and family shelter building.
General queries about the OWLS programme can be directed to the Parks Department on (01) 205 4700 or to the Council web site.
