There was a very worrying environmental incident in the sea at Scotsman’s Bay, in Dún Laoghaire, last week, when 70-100kg of small plastic pieces were allowed to pollute the sea.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, along with the contractors for the site at the old Dún Laoghaire Baths and local volunteers, have been working for days to clean up the area and recover as many of the bits of plastic as possible.

This appears to be an accident caused by the contractor, but we hope to minimise the impact on our precious environment and wildlife.

Investigations are on-going and there will be consequences for those responsible, but none of the clean-up costs will be borne by the Council or the tax payer.
