Vico Road is closed until further notice, due to the collapse of the “bank” onto the road.
The Council did not carry out an investigation into the cause of the collapse but took immediate action in the aftermath to make the area safe. Following the carrying out of work to make the area safe, a decision was made to close a portion of the road in the interests of safety for road users.
It is considered that the road should not be re-opened until the bank has been repaired and the entire area is declared to be safe by a structural engineer.
It is not possible to give an indication as to when the works are likely to be undertaken as the Council takes the view that responsibility for rectifying the matter lies with a private property owner. The matter is being pursued as vigorously as possible by the Council’s architects and the Transportation Department with a view to having the road re-opened at the earliest possible opportunity.
