I am delighted to have taken the third seat in the Blackrock Ward on Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
Congratulations to my colleague, Marie Baker, on topping the poll, and to Mary Hanafin (FF), both of whom were elected on the first count. I was elected third with 1,30 votes, followed by Kate Feeney (FF) and Victor Boyhan (Ind).
Great credit is due to my professional and political colleague, Maurice Dockrell, who ran a great campaign, and whose hard work actually elected me on the fifth count. I was also delighted that my surplus then also elected Deirdre Kingston (Labour) on the sixth count without reaching the quota.
The electorate in Blackrock was 22,712, and 10,474 people voted – the quota was 1,485 votes.

Thank you to everyone who supported me and helped with the campaign, particularly to former chairman of Dún Laoghaire Fine Gael, Frank Butler, who was tireless in his commitment to the campaign and who owns this result.
The first meeting of the new (40-strong) council will take place in County Hall on the 6th of June 2014. Plenty of work to be done….
